Sharpless 2-202

Emission Nebula, Camelopardalis

December 2025. Cave Creek Canyon Observatory, Arizona Sky Village

This is a wider field view of Sharpless 202 (Sh2-202). It is a large and faint emission nebula in the constellation of Camelopardalis. This region also contains a number of objects from the Lynd’s catalog and projects a elongated dark nebula line running from near center to top-right in this image.
On the left side of the image are Van den Berg 14 and 15. (VdB 14 and Vdb 15), These are reflection nebula located about 2,600 light-years away from us and part of a much larger cloud of gas and dust that makes up the Camelopardalis OB1 association, a big, active star-forming region. These nebulae glow blue from stars associated with each of them lighting up the dust. Top-right is the more popular object IC 1848 also know as the Soul Nebula, and Emission Nebula Located in the constellation of Cassiopeia, IC 1848 is a star forming region spanning about 300 light-years across.
