NGC 249

Emission Nebula. SMC, Tucana

NGC 249 is an emission nebula within a large ionized HII region in the Small Magellanic Cloud in the constellation Tucana. It was discovered on 5 September 1826 by the astronomer James Dunlop. The Small Magellanic Cloud is a dwarf galaxy which is a satellite of the Milky Way, and hosts numerous nebulae and star clusters.
