Complex Dark Nebula Region, Canis Major

December 2023. Observatorio El Sauce, Chile

LDN 1667, (Lynd’s Dark Nebula 1667) is a Dark Nebula which can be found in the Constellation of Canis Major. It is part of the larger Sh2-310 HII region and located about 600 light years away from us within the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex. The Orion Molecular Cloud Complex is a massive star-forming region that spans across the Orion and Monoceros constellations and contains a variety of objects including bright reflection nebulae like M42 and dark nebulae like LDN 1667.
