IC 1284

Emission & Reflection Nebulae, Sagittarius

September 2024. Observatorio El Sauce, Chile

IC 1284 (also known as Sharpless 37 and Gum 78) is the large HII region in the constellation of Sagittarius. It is located approximately 6,000 light-years away. At the center of IC 1284 is the open cluster Dias 5.
There are also two blue reflection nebulae in this image. The first is VdB 118 (also known as IC 1283, NGC 6589, & LBN 46), & below this is NGC 6590 which also contains the open cluster NGC 6595. LDN 315 is the dark nebula that fills most of all of the FOV.
