LDN 1534 (Lynd’s Dark Nebula) is a dark nebula located in Northern Taurus. Much of this region of the sky is dominated by dark nebulae and several different areas can be seen in this image. LDN 1534 is the most prominent just left of center. It is also cataloged as Barnard 22 (B22). IC 2087, a small reflection nebula appears to be a part of this object also.
Lynds’ Catalogue of Dark Nebulae (abbreviation: LDN) is an astronomical catalogue of dark nebulae. Objects listed in the catalogue are numbered with the prefix LDN (not to be confused with LBN, or Lynds’ Catalogue of Bright Nebulae), from numbers 1 to 1802. It was originally compiled in 1962 by American astronomer Beverly Turner Lynds.
